Urban walk in the charming little town by the Little Belt, where the streets and beautiful architecture show the way from the Middle Ages to the present day.

A fence like a city wall, for the city was sheltered from trouble. Merchant farms at beach and port where ships unloaded and loaded goods. The guinea pigs in the Little Belt were cooked into cod liver oil, which provided street lighting.

By 1888, the population was doubled if the patients and staff of the new insane hospital were counted. Factories with smoking chimneys came about and worker housing was built. Bridges instead of ferries. The streets and architecture contain the great history and stories of the life lived.

The town between the old ferry crossings over the Little Belt, hence the name: Middelfart.
